KEEPING IT FUN FOR EVERYONE
In order to compete in the Rappahannock
Regional Soap Box Derby, GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP is required of all drivers
and their families.
And remember, GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP is most
important and is expected at all of our race activities, including Inspection
Day, Lane & Heat and Race Day!

Where do we park?
Family of the drivers may park on side
streets near the race or we recommend the Free Lance-Star parking lot on
William Street. Keep in mind you will not be able to cross William
Street (with your cars) between College Avenue and Kenmore Avenue on race
day. Also, to ease traffic and parking for neighborhood residents, parking
and travel on Brompton St. will be limited to residents only.
-
When do I race? NEW!!!!!
Pick up a Free Lance-Star on the Friday before the race
and look through the Race Day program. Inside are the racing brackets that
show the order of races. We are sorry, but we can not give you a specific
time you will race, so drivers need to be near their car throughout the
day. Each driver is guaranteed to go down the hill 2 times.
-
How do you know who wins?
We measure the differential of the cars
passing over the finish line. In other words, our timing system measures
which car comes across the finish line first, and by how much it beats
the other car. The car that wins by the biggest differential is the one
that goes on, and the other car is eliminated.
-
What happens to my car after the race?
As long as you are winning, your car is
brought back up to the top of the hill. If you are eliminated, pick up
your gift from our heat sponsor table located below the finish line. Your
car will be put in the Maury playground area at the bottom of the hill
until you pick it up. Parents will not be allowed to drive past barricade
on Kenmore Ave and Brompton St. You will need to roll your car from the
disqualification area down the street to your vehicle. Disqualified cars
must be picked up by the end of the day. The Soap Box Derby is not responsible
for any cars left in Maury Field. The top two finishing cars in each
division are impounded until the winning cars are re-inspected and sent
on to Akron. At that time the second place cars will be available for pick
up by their drivers.
